Punjab, the farming capital of India also known as the Land of Five Rivers was sometimes known as the drug capital due to the overused image by the media.

Punjab is known as the land of 5 rivers because before the partition of India and Pakistan 5 rivers used to flow through the land of Punjab. Around the year 2012-13, Punjab came to be known as the drug capital because it had land borders with Pakistan so it was found that the smuggle of drugs was done from the borders of Pakistan, not only drugs but illegal arms and other illegal items were also found to be smuggled through Punjab-Pakistan borders. on the running serious issue, local media and press release disturbing images of the youth being killed by illegal drugs like heroin, opium, and banned medications.
The images above are released by famous newspapers The Tribune and Indian Express. these images show how drugs are being distributed so openly in Punjab and youth is being killed afterward hows the situation of the family members who saw their young child being killed by doing drugs. These images had a lot of power to change the perceptions of the audience. where the Punjab was called the farming capital people now used to call it the drug capital. this was not only the fault of the news and media but the local or Bollywood producers started making movies on the rising issue of which One example is the Movie Udta Punjab (meaning Flying High Punjab).

This All Drug Mafia had the cover of local politics. The local political party Shiromani akalidal was seen as the main accused of drug distribution the party heads Sukhbir Badal and Bikramjeet Singh Majithia were the main heads of the party which believed to supply the drugs to local gangs. Their party ruled Punjab for a long time but when the following images changed the perceptions of people the party never got elected again people started bullying them for destroying an entire generation. punjab is still suffering from this image created in minds, but from time to time, the new government is making improvements even the people of Punjab are now o concerned about their generation and are taking important steps so that the state does not suffer from such a condition again.
